One of Natures Most Amazing Compounds - Best if its Organic!
An Introduction to Cannabidiol (CBD)
Of all the healing compounds found in the cannabis plant, the one that is making the most headlines in recent years is a phytocannabinoids (plant based cannabinoid) called Cannabidiol, this remarkable cannabinoid is commonly known by its acronym (CBD).
The first consideration of CBD is that it is free from the psychoactive properties, this means that there is no chance of getting ‘high’ or ‘stoned’. In marijuana the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) compound is the part responsible for the psychotropic effect. Often CBD is extracted from hemp plants because by nature, hemp has much higher levels of CBD and usually miniscule amounts of THC.
These two cannabinoids are part of a collection of over 100 compounds in the cannabis plant, many are currently under close examination by science to better understand their healing properties.
The second most important consideration in reviewing cannabidiol, is to understand that all human beings have an endocannabinoid system. This system is not unlike a respiratory system or nervous system and plays a very important part in maintaining health. Understanding the function of the endocannabinoid system is key to appreciating the healing aspects of marijuana and CBD.
In brief, the endocannabinoid system runs throughout the human body and is covered in receptors known as CB1 and CB2 receptors. The function of this marvellous system (which was only discovered in the past few decades) is to keep us healthy by regulating homeostasis (the process of balanced health). It’s no understatement to say that providing the appropriate cannabinoids to the system will promote and maintain and restore good health.
This far, CBD has shown the most promise to medicine because of its antianxiety properties, capacity to improve sleep, manage pain, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antineoplastic and chemo-preventive properties. This is by no means a comprehensive list of treatments – however you can see the enormous potential in medical and marketing terms. There is some evidence that CBD can assist as a neuro-protector (help keep away illness such as Alzheimer’s).
So far, CBD is the most promising compound from both a marketing and a medical perspective. Many users believe it helps them relax, despite it not being psychoactive, and some believe regular doses help stave off Alzheimer’s and heart disease. Other studies have shown CBD to have anti-inflammatory and anti-psychotic properties.
The beauty of CBD is that it comes from a natural plant and is fairly simple to extract and keep pure – so it’s easy to obtain an organic product free from herbicides and chemical fertilizers. The range of applications that CBD comes in is vast and a few examples include tinctures, concentrates, easy to take capsules, topical (for skin conditions), sprays and sublinguals and of course what has gained huge popularity are vapes.
So now you have a basic overview of cannabidiol and CBD and we strongly recommend that you only choose organic CBD as it makes no sense to take a product that is not organic as it may cause more of the same type of problems that you are trying to treat.
